2021 Outremer 51
ENGAGE — Outremer 51 Hull #83 (2021)
For Sale — Outremer 51 Catamaran, EU VAT Paid, Near Marseille, France
Outremer was born in 1984 in La Grande Motte, from the conviction of a young naval architect, Gérard Danson, that a cruising catamaran should above all be light, and that light means fast, and fast, done properly, means safe as much as it means fun. That idea never really left the yard. When Grand Large Yachting took over in 2007, it built on the same values rather than replacing them, and the Outremer 49 became the boat that proved it, a fully infused structure, a balanced hull, flush decks and open visibility, everything a bluewater cruising catamaran needed to be, made better. The Outremer 51 carries that same DNA forward, matured by everything the 49 had already proven at sea, and it is today the best seller of the brokerage, for reasons that become obvious the moment you sail one. She is fast when the wind allows it, easily overtaking boats still on their engines in the lightest of airs, and just as composed when it builds, always balanced, always reassuring at the helm. It is a boat equally suited to a weekend in the Mediterranean or a family circumnavigation, because underneath the comfort, she remains, at heart, a proper sailing boat.
ENGAGE, hull number 83, wears that heritage well, and adds a story of her own. Since 2021 she has sailed only between Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, the same waters her owners returned to, season after season, rather than chasing new ones. Today she counts 5,100 nautical miles and 550 engine hours, figures that quietly speak for themselves. Her owners, exacting and warm in equal measure, looked after her with real care, and it shows throughout the boat. After many good moments together, they are now turning their attention to new adventures, and it is with that in mind that they are offering ENGAGE for sale.
That same care runs through her maintenance. The sail wardrobe, mainsail, self tacking solent, gennaker and Code 0, has just been fully overhauled, and a near new asymmetric spinnaker was added only three seasons ago. The self tacking solent changes how easily she can be sailed day to day, tacking without ever leaving the cockpit, which suits a couple sailing short handed just as well as it suits family cruising. Life on board has mattered as much as life under sail. She carries a watermaker, heating, and a lithium battery bank fed by a generous solar array, quietly self sufficient wherever she anchors. Added this year, a washing machine and a dishwasher make her a boat you could live aboard for weeks, not simply visit for a fortnight. To go ashore, or to explore a little further, she carries a striking carbon AST tender fitted with a Joker jet drive.
At Grand Large Services, we are the brokerage of the shipyard that built her, and we have known ENGAGE, and her owners, since the day she first left the yard. That continuity is at the heart of how we work, it means buying ENGAGE comes with her complete history, and with direct access to Outremer's own technical and after sales teams, not simply a broker meeting the boat for the first time at survey. We would like nothing more than to see ENGAGE begin her next chapter with owners who will recognise, as her first owners did, exactly what this 51 is worth.
ENGAGE is currently ashore and available to view near Marseille, in the south of France. She is offered with EU VAT paid, and a VAT recovery scheme may be available for eligible buyers, our team will be glad to talk you through it.
